American Pit Bull Terrier

Breed history, conformation criteria, scoring, faults, and eligibility requirements.

Breed History

This dog has a varied history, being imported from England, Ireland, and Scotland the bull and terrier breeds were brought to the Americas to serve as the all-around dog, a dog of many jobs. The creation of the dog we know of as the American Pit Bull Terrier came from blending other breeds to create a canine athlete that was capable of herding, protection, and vermin removal among other things. This called for a dog that was truly one of the most tractable, versatile breeds ever.
